30th Anniversary of being twinned with Horb

After a massive amount of organisation on the part of the Town Hall in Horb am Neckar, a four-way link was established via ZOOM at 12.30 on Sunday 18th July, just one day before (Covid) restrictions were lifted. Accordingly, our numbers were limited to the committee and partners. During the hour that all of Horb’s twinned towns were linked together (Haslemere (UK), Salins-les-Bains (France) and Sant Just Desvern (Spain)), the mayors of each town gave a short ‘speech’ and various musical items were performed in three of the four countries. The main instigator of this event, Peter Rosenberger (Oberbürgermeister of Horb) presented the opening speech and, after the mayors of the French and Spanish towns had delivered theirs, our own Mayor, Simon Dear, delivered his.

Haslemere goes to Bernay

This was the first casualty of the year due to the Coronavirus. About thirty of us would have made the trip over to Normandy to enjoy the company of our hosts again. Never mind, we are hoping that this will go ahead more or less the same dates in 2021 when we hope to be in a much better place regarding the pandemic.

New Year’s Drinks and Nibbles

Haslemere Town Hall, 12.00 to 14.00
This was a great time when we welcomed some new members and spent a couple of hours chatting together over delicious homemade finger food (lovingly prepared by members) and some excellent drink.

Annual Fund-Raising Quiz Night

Our Lady of Lourdes Hall, Derby Road, Haslemere
This went really well and helped to put some money back into the association’s account. Our thanks go to all those who filled the hall and entered into the spirit of the evening. The meal was prepared by our loyal team of caterers and the clearing up at the end was completed all the more speedily because of the offers of help from so many. We so hope that this event this year will not be torpedoed because of the virus. We must wait and see.

Bernay came to Haslemere

This trip passed off well, was appreciated by all our guests and went far too quickly. On Thursday we spent a fabulous half-day at Bunchfield, tracking down a phantom and enjoying lunch together. On Friday, our day out together, we took our Bernay friends to Denbies for lunch, then on to a tour of the Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon. And on Saturday we sat down to a fabulous evening dinner together at The Haslewey Centre, Haslemere. It was a sad moment when their coach pulled away to go to Newhaven for their ferry to Dieppe, and on to Bernay.

Haslemere went to Horb

We always fly to Stuttgart where we are picked up to be driven by coach to Horb, invariably stopping off along the way for a leg stretch, cup of something and a short sight-see. Christine Dietz had put together a fabulously varied programme interspersed with much music-making, coach rides and visits and, of course, lots of eating both out and in the tranquillity of the homes of our hosts.
